How to Make A Small Bedroom Appear Bigger
At the end of a long day, you want nothing more than to escape to your sanctuary – aka your bedroom – kick off your shoes, and relax and unwind. However, if your bedroom is small, you may feel like you can’t turn it into your dream escape. Luckily, there are some tricks on how to make a smaller room appear larger without breaking the bank:
Don’t Be Afraid of Color: A small bedroom doesn’t mean you can’t have fun with color. Just don’t go overboard. Limit your color choices to one or two main colors, as too many colors will overwhelm the room. Fortunately, you have the liberty to choose whatever colors your heart desires – so go ahead and paint your bedroom that vivid purple or bright blue. One tip, though – consider painting the trim the same color as the wall, as two colors can cause a disjointed look, which makes the room visually smaller.
Avoid Small Furniture: Because your room is small, you may be tempted to fill it with small pieces of furniture. Don’t. Instead, choose a couple of big pieces of furniture, as these will act as a focal point and make the room appear larger. Add a dresser that’s tall instead of wide or an armoire, as both will give you space and the height to draw the eye up. Don’t block walking pathways with furniture, as this will make the room feel cramped.
Keep It Cozy: Your bedroom is your place to relax, so you want to maintain a cozy feel. Add a lot of lighting, as lighting can open up small spaces and make them appear larger. Pillows are a great way to add color/contrast, and avoid clutter, as this will make your room busy and crowded – the opposite of a cozy, relaxing oasis.
